Pakistani actress in Babar Azam marriage proposal controversy now faces arrest. What went wrong? Who is Nazish Jahangir?

Pakistani starlet Nazish Jahangir recently faced a huge backlash from diehard fans of ace cricketer Baba Azam, after one of her remarks regarding how a potential marriage with the cricket sensation went viral. The incident unfolded on Instagram when Jahangir was asked how she would react if Azam proposed to her. In response, she simply stated, "Maaazarat hi karun gi" (I would politely decline the offer).

Her reply did not sit well with Babar Azam’s admirers, who quickly took to social media to criticize her. As a result of the intense backlash, Jahangir decided to switch her Instagram profile from public to private in an attempt to shield herself from further negative attention.

Amid the controversy, an altered screenshot began circulating, falsely attributing a statement to Jahangir in which she was allegedly seen harshly criticizing those attacking her for rejecting the hypothetical proposal. Seeking to clear the air, she openly denounced the fabricated image and voiced her frustration with the online harassment.

Expressing her disappointment, she remarked, "It’s unfortunate how these individuals reveal their true nature and attempt to discredit not only me but also Babar Azam. They claim to respect him, yet their behavior speaks otherwise—I can only pity them."

Despite being subjected to relentless trolling and online abuse, the Inaam e Mohabbat actress remained firm in her stance. She stated, "I’m only addressing this because I refuse to engage in unnecessary arguments. There exists a significant difference between your level and mine... so carry on."

Furthermore, Jahangir sought to clarify the misinterpretation surrounding her previous comment about Babar Azam. She emphasized that she holds all national cricketers in high regard and considers them akin to brothers. Urging the fans to stop spreading negativity, she underscored her neutral stance on the matter, asserting, "Na meri cricketers se leni na deni (I have no involvement with cricketers); to be honest, they are all like brothers to me."

Additionally, Jahangir reiterated her personal preference regarding marriage, firmly stating that she has no intention of marrying anyone from the entertainment industry. She also expressed a desire to settle abroad after marriage, ideally with a partner from outside Pakistan.

“I will never marry someone from within the industry—that is an absolute decision. If my future spouse happens to be from another country, it would be even better. Though I haven’t given it much thought, if given a choice, I would prefer to settle abroad after marriage, whether it be the USA, Dubai, Canada, or even the UK,” she recently shared.

Recently, Jahangir faced legal trouble when an arrest warrant was issued against her in connection to a fraud case. As per an ARY News report, a court in Lahore instructed the Defense-C police to take Nazish Jahangir into custody, along with co-accused Sikandar Khan and other individuals, and ensure their appearance in court no later than March 22.

The legal proceedings against Jahangir were initiated by fellow actor Aswad Haroon under multiple legal provisions, including charges of deception and fraudulent inducement for the transfer of property, as well as additional allegations concerning threats involving weapons.

According to Haroon’s complaint, Jahangir borrowed both his vehicle and Rs. 5 million, assuring him that she would return them within a two-month period. However, even after six months, she allegedly failed to fulfill this commitment. Haroon further contends that she sent an associate, identified as Sikandar Khan, who purportedly issued death threats against him.

In response, Jahangir has refuted all claims, describing them as a calculated scheme to extort her and tarnish her public image. Notably, this is not her first legal controversy. In 2020, she was apprehended by the Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) cybercrime unit in Karachi on accusations of blackmail, harassment, and disseminating falsified videos and posts.
