Election Guide
During the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, voters across the country have designated time slots to exercise their voting rights, which differ according to their respective regions. For specific voting hours, individuals are encouraged to consult the Election Commission's official website. The Commission advises voters to find their polling stations using photo voter slips or online tools, aiming to facilitate a seamless voting experience. For further support, citizens can access information on the Commission's website or reach out to local electoral authorities.
What if your name is missing in voters list?
Ensuring voting eligibility is crucial for citizen engagement in governance. This guide simplifies the process, covering voter registration confirmation, enrollment steps, and utilizing technological aids like the 'Voter Helpline' app. Additionally, it outlines the procedure for updating address details on the voter ID card, emphasizing accuracy for seamless participation in the electoral process.
How do I check where to go and vote?
In the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections 2024, finding your nearest polling booth is crucial for exercising your democratic right to vote. Here's how: Visit www.nvsp.in, enter your EPIC number, and locate your booth. Alternatively, dial 1950 for helpline assistance or send an SMS. On voting day, follow the procedural steps outlined for a smooth voting experience. For further guidance, refer to online resources.
How to check your name on the voter list? Download voter slip online?
It is required that your name should appear on the Election Commission's electoral rolls. Once you have found your name on the electoral roll and you also possess an identification document prescribed above by the ECI (the voter ID card or any other acceptable document), you will be allowed to vote.
The ECI introduced a particular symbol for ‘None of the Above’ option to allow the voters to exercise NOTA. This symbol appears in the last panel on all Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs).
All you need to know about Exit polls
Agencies conducting an exit poll follow a range of different procedures or methods. One of the most common methods is sampling. These agencies might opt for random or systematic sampling.
Those citizens who have been declared by the law that they are unstable to vote or barred due to corrupt practices or any illegal act relating to elections are not entitled to be a voter.
The ECI while introducing NOTA indicated that although votes cast as NOTA are counted, they are invalid votes so they will not impact the result of the election process. Therefore, whether NOTA gets more or less votes, it is not taken into account for calculating the total valid votes.
EVM's run on normal battery and they do not require electricity. An EVM can be used to record a maximum of 2,000 votes.
Can I ask for a copy of VVPAT?
The VVPAT machine gives instant feedback to the voter, through a printed slip. Essentially, after a voter presses the button confirming their vote for their chosen candidate or NOTA, the VVPAT machine prints a slip containing the name of the candidate and the corresponding election symbol and automatically drops it in a sealed box.
Maharashtra election results: Results for the Maharashtra polls, which saw a dramatic fight between Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) and Maha Yuti Alliance was nothing short of a surprise. While several exit polls had forecast the BJP-led alliance would take the lead, the results showed BJP alliance to have stunned the Congress-led opposition give the massive lead they took.
The Mahayuti alliance led in 220 seats, out of the 288 seats, while MVA could manage just over 50 seats. Any speculation about a hung assembly was put to rest as Mahayuti far outpaced the 145 majority mark needed to form the government.
It needs to be seen who will be the next Maharashtra chief minister, but speculations are rife that BJP's Devendra Fadnavis may be the state's top boss. Reports also suggest the oath taking ceremony will be held on November 26.
Elections in Maharashtra were held in a single phase on November 20.
The 288-member Maharashtra Legislative Assembly’s current term ends on November 26.
The two coalitions in the race were -- the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), consisting of Uddhav Thackeray’s Sena (UBT), NCP (Sharad Pawar) and Congress, and the Maha Yuti Alliance, comprising BJP, Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde) and NCP (Ajit Pawar).
There are 9.63 crore voters in Maharashtra - 4.97 crore males and 4.66 crore female voters. There are 1.85 crore young voters, of which 20.93 lakh are first-time voters. There are total 1,00,186 polling stations at 52,789 locations.
The election was full of drama, featuring a battle of Sena vs Sena, Pawar vs Pawar, along with the familiar Congress vs BJP showdown. The political landscape in Maharashtra has drastically changed since the last assembly election in 2019.
Jharkhand Assembly election 2024
Jharkhand election results: When early trends started pouring in for Jharkhand polls, it seemed that Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren's Jharkhand Mukti Morcha would not return to power again. Soon after the tide turned and JMM, part of INDIA bloc, solidified its lead.
The INDIA bloc in Jharkhand led in 51 seats, while BJP-led NDA led in 26 seats out of the 81 seats that went to polls. The majority mark is 41.
Elections in Jharkhand were largely a fight between the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM)-led alliance with the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA). The Jharkhand assembly elections were held in two phase -- on November 13 and 20.
Exit poll predictions for Jharkhand had suggested a tight race, with pollsters sharply divided over the outcomes for the BJP-led NDA and the JMM-led INDIA bloc in the state assembly elections. Projections indicated a close contest, with some exit polls predicting a clean sweep for BJP+, others favoring JMM+, and one forecasting a hung assembly. An aggregate of six exit polls showed three giving a clear victory to the BJP-led NDA, two favoring the ruling JMM, and one predicting a hung house in the 81-member Assembly.
The term of the current Jharkhand assembly will end on January 5, 2025.
The state has 81 assembly seats (44 General, 9 SC and 28 ST). There are a total of 24 districts in the state. It has 2.6 crore registered voters, of which 1.29 crore are women, 1.31 crore are men, 66.84 lakh young voters, and 11.84 lakh first-time voters.

At the previous assembly polls (2019), JMM had bagged 30 seats and formed a government with the Congress, which had won 16 seats.
The JMM at present is part of the INDIA bloc. On the other side is the NDA, which includes the BJP, the All Jharkhand Students Union (AJSU) and Janata Dal (United) in Jharkhand.
Haryana Assembly Election 2024
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) emerged victorious in the 2024 Haryana Assembly elections, securing 48 seats, while the Congress won 37 seats. This marks the first time a party has won three consecutive terms in the state. The BJP, which had previously formed a coalition government in 2019 despite falling short of the majority, has now solidified its hold on Haryana's political landscape.
In the 2019 elections, the BJP had managed to win only 40 seats, below the majority mark, but had formed the government with support from the Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) and several Independent MLAs. This year’s victory reinforces the party’s dominance in the state.
Notable figures who secured victories include wrestler and Congress leader Vinesh Phogat from the Julana constituency, former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda from Garhi Sampla-Kiloi, Independent candidate Savitri Jindal, and Haryana's Chief Minister Nayab Singh.
The main contenders in this election were the BJP, Congress, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), JJP, and Indian National Lok Dal (INLD). While the BJP aimed to achieve a third consecutive win, the Congress had sought to end its decade-long absence from power in the state.
J&K Assembly Election 2024
