Nayanthara opens up on her past love story with Prabhudeva and the compromises she made

‘Lady Superstar’ Nayanthara was once ready to compromise her career, all in the name of love. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the ‘Jawan’ actress revealed she was ready to bid adieu to films in 2011 due to a request from her then-boyfriend, choreographer-director Prabhudeva. “I was in a phase where I believed that I had to compromise if I wanted love in my life. I was too vulnerable and young,” she said.

She shared how her experiences observing relationships within the industry influenced her understanding of love. The actress revealed that seeing different dynamics, including second marriages, shaped her belief that love demanded compromise and self-sacrifice. At the time, she thought that being loved required giving everything, even at the cost of setting aside personal desires or interests to satisfy a partner.

“The girl in me genuinely thought that if you need love in your life, you need to compromise somewhere. You need to give it your all. If your partner doesn’t like you doing something, you should just sacrifice. This was my understanding of love at that point in time,” she reminisced.

Reflecting on a significant relationship, the 'Jawan' actress highlighted its profound impact on her personal growth. She acknowledged that it played a crucial role during a tough period in her life, enabling her to uncover her inner strength and recognize her true potential. “If not for that particular relationship, I don’t think I would have found the strength to be what I am today. I wouldn’t be able to understand what I am capable of. After that, I was a whole different person altogether,” she explained.

Nayanthara and Vignesh Shivan first crossed paths during the making of Naanum Rowdy Dhaan, a project helmed by Vignesh and produced by Dhanush. Their bond blossomed into love as they collaborated on the film, leading to a relationship that lasted over eight years before they tied the knot in June 2022.
