The deal was valued at Rs 29.34 crore, with the cost per acre amounting to Rs 1.7 crore with the Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB). It represents a significant investment in the state’s industrial infrastructure and a step toward strengthening India’s domestic aerospace capabilities.
According to the registered agreement shared by Propstack, the acquired land spans across 7.4 lakh sq ft in Vemgal 1st Phase Industrial Area, strategically located along the Kolar-Chikkaballapur Road (SH-96). The site is approximately 10 km from the Narasapura and Jakkasandra industrial areas, within a 666-acre industrial area developed by KIADB.
“TASL’s investment aligns with India’s broader vision for defense self-reliance and indigenous aerospace manufacturing. The upcoming facility is expected to significantly boost the country’s aircraft production capabilities while also creating employment opportunities in the region,” said a person aware of the development.
As a subsidiary of Tata Sons, TASL has been instrumental in shaping India’s aerospace landscape through collaborations with global defense giants such as Lockheed Martin and Boeing. The new plant in Vemgal is anticipated to support India’s defense aviation sector and enhance the country’s role in the global aerospace supply chain.
Karnataka has increasingly become a preferred destination for aerospace and defense investments, with Bengaluru already serving as a major hub for aviation and defense technology. The state government, through KIADB, has been actively promoting investments in high-value manufacturing sectors by facilitating land allotments and industrial infrastructure development. With this acquisition, TASL joins a growing list of companies leveraging Karnataka’s industrial ecosystem for advanced manufacturing.
Following the land acquisition, TASL is expected to begin construction soon, aiming to accelerate India’s indigenous aircraft production and defense manufacturing capabilities. This initiative is in line with the country’s “Make in India” and “Atmanirbhar Bharat” programs, which emphasize self-sufficiency in critical sectors such as defense and aerospace. As global demand for aerospace manufacturing rises, India’s push to expand its domestic capabilities positions TASL and other Indian firms as emerging players in the international market.
