US weapons left in Afghanistan sold to militant groups, some even reach al-Qaeda: Report
Half a million weapons the US left in Afghanistan after the Taliban’s takeover have been lost, sold or smuggled to militant groups, as per a report. The United Nations believes some of these weapons have fallen into the hands of al-Qaeda affiliates. Taliban took control of around one million weapons and US-funded military equipment after regaining control of Afghanistan, a former Afghan official told the BBC. Several Afghan soldiers surrendered or fled, abandoning their weapons and vehicles as the Taliban advanced through Afghanistan.
