Trump wants Linda McMohan to dismantle Department of Education; make states 'responsible’ for funds
US President Donald Trump is expected to issue an executive order abolishing the Department of Education, per reports. Newly sworn-in Education Secretary Linda McMahon will be directed to facilitate the closure ‘based on the maximum extent permitted by law.’ Trump has previously called the department a con job, saying the US trails other nations at the 40th spot in education but ends up topping charts for cost per pupil. The order aims to decentralise education, sending it back to the states rather than maintaining a ‘Federal bureaucratic hold’ on it.
