Severance season 2 ends with a major twist – here's the latest on season 3

Severance Season 2 has concluded with a dramatic twist. Episode 10, titled Cold Harbor, was released in the U.S. on March 20 and will be available worldwide a day later. At 76 minutes long, it is the longest episode of the series to date.

In Cold Harbor, Mark’s outie, through video recordings, urges his innie to rescue Gemma from the testing floor after completing the Cold Harbor file—warning that failure to do so will result in Gemma's death. Mark’s innie, realizing that he is being asked to sacrifice himself and Helly, storms off.

The next day, Mark arrives at the severed floor and completes the Cold Harbor file while Dylan returns after his outie rejects his resignation request. Mark receives a celebration from Milchick, complete with a marching band. Meanwhile, Helly distracts Milchick and locks him in a bathroom with Dylan’s help, allowing Mark to search for the hallway leading to the testing floor.

In the Cold Harbor room, Gemma is tasked with disassembling the crib that Mark had built for their baby—an exercise meant to elicit no emotional response, much to the satisfaction of Dr. Mauer and Jame Eagan. Elsewhere, Mr. Drummond summons Lorne to sacrifice a goat but is distracted when Mark attempts to break into the Exports Hall. Drummond tries to kill Mark but is stopped by Lorne. In the chaos, Mark takes Drummond with him in the elevator down to the testing floor but accidentally kills him during the transition. Mark finds Gemma, and they escape back to the severed floor, where they revert to their innie personas. Mark helps Gemma reach the exit but ultimately chooses to stay behind, returning to Helly.

Ben Stiller has reassured Severance fans that the wait for Season 3 will be significantly shorter. During his appearance on the New Heights podcast with Travis and Jason Kelce, the executive producer dismissed concerns about potential delays.

"No, no, the plan is not—definitely not," Stiller said.

What Severance Is All About

The series follows Mark Scout (Adam Scott), who leads a team at Lumon Industries, where employees undergo a surgical procedure that completely separates their work and personal lives. Season 2 has explored the consequences of disrupting the severance barrier, leading to mounting complications.

The series has achieved remarkable success, surpassing Ted Lasso in viewership, with over three billion streaming minutes recorded in February. Production for Season 2 spanned 186 days, with delays caused by the 2023 Writers Guild of America and SAG-AFTRA strikes.

Reportedly, Stiller wanted Barack Obama to narrate the Lumon is Listening video segment. When that didn’t work out, Keanu Reeves stepped in for the voice-over.

Series creator Dan Erickson told Decider that the upcoming season will maintain its signature mix of “office stuff, existential stuff, laughs, and creepy moments.” It promises to deepen character relationships while revealing hidden motivations.

An Apple TV+ executive described Severance as “an incredible success story in every way imaginable.”
