Uber for Teens launched in India: Who is eligible, what are the benefits & how can you use the ride-hailing service for your kids

Synopsis
Uber has introduced 'Uber for Teens,' a service for 13- to 17-year-olds in 37 Indian cities, emphasizing safety and convenience. The service offers GPS tracking, real-time monitoring, and emergency alerts, providing peace of mind for parents. The move addresses the transportation challenges faced by teenagers and their families, with parents able to control and monitor rides.
This launch brings a safe, reliable, and hassle-free mobility option for teens, giving parents peace of mind with GPS tracking, real-time ride monitoring, and an in-app emergency button.
The service was first launched in the US in 2023 and later implemented in over 50 countries.
A consumer survey by Uber revealed that 92% of parents face situations where their teens miss out on activities due to a lack of reliable transport. Additionally, 72% of parents cited safety as their top concern.
With teens juggling school, extracurriculars, and coaching classes, parents often find themselves shuttling them around in their own cars (63%) or struggling to arrange transport, the company said. Uber for Teens, as the company has said, aims to solve this by offering a service that is both safe and cool to use.
Uber allows parents to take control:
Here's what Uber claims to offer:- GPS tracking for every ride
- Real-time trip monitoring via the parent’s app
- Detailed ride summaries for complete transparency
- Emergency button for instant safety alerts
- Parental control—parents can book, approve, or monitor rides
"We recognize the unique transportation challenges faced by teenagers and their families in India. With Uber for Teens, we are committed to addressing these challenges by providing a service that parents can trust and that teens will find easy and cool to use," said Prabhjeet Singh, President, Uber India and South Asia.
