Prime Minister Narendra Modi handed over 15,024 homes to economically weaker sections in Maharashtra's Solapur district, as part of the world's largest affordable housing project under PMAY-U. The project, spanning 350 acres, is divided into two phases and will construct a total of 30,000 flats across 833 buildings. Each dwelling unit costs Rs 6.10 lakh, including infrastructure priced at Rs 5,00,000.

Women own majority of homes under PM's housing scheme, says report
Since June 2015, the government has approved Rs 2.03 lakh crore in central subsidy to 123 lakh homes, while the total investment needed for the scheme which seeks to build 20 million homes by 2022 is Rs 8.31 lakh crore. Of the approved funds, central assistance worth Rs 1.20 lakh crore have been released till FY22.

A total of 16 million homes have been constructed since April 2014. Data shows that numbers of those living in semi-pucca houses has come down from 24.6% to 17.4% during the period. Those living in kutcha houses is down from 9.6% to 5.9%. In other words, 10.5 million rural households living in kutcha houses and dilapidated semipucca houses need a new habitat.
PMAY house must be in name of a female member: Urban development minister
Confirming this, Hardeep Singh Puri said here on Wednesday that allotment of a house under PMAY will be subjected to entitlement in the name of a female family member only.
