Maharashtra Assembly election 2024 Maharashtra Assembly election results: Maharashtra assembly poll results, announced on November 23, came as a surprise -- a pleasant one for Mahayuti and a nasty one for Maha Vikas Aghadi. While the general exit poll findings had tilted towards a win for the BJP-led Mahayuti, the final margin was nothing short of dramatic and stunning. Speculations about a hung assembly quickly went out of the window as Mahayuti notched up the majority mark of 145 by late mid-day. It needs to be seen who will be the next Maharashtra chief minister, but speculations are rife that BJP's Devendra Fadnavis may be the state's top boss. Reports also suggest the oath taking ceremony will be held on November 26. Elections in Maharashtra were held in a single phase on November 20. The 288-member Maharashtra Legislative Assembly’s current term ends on November 26. The two coalitions in the race were -- the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), consisting of Uddhav Thackeray’s Sena (UBT), NCP (Sharad Pawar) and Congress, and the Maha Yuti Alliance, comprising BJP, Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde) and NCP (Ajit Pawar). There are 9.63 crore voters in Maharashtra - 4.97 crore males and 4.66 crore female voters. There are 1.85 crore young voters, of which 20.93 lakh are first-time voters. There are total 1,00,186 polling stations at 52,789 locations. The election was full of drama, featuring a battle of Sena vs Sena, Pawar vs Pawar, along with the familiar Congress vs BJP showdown. The political landscape in Maharashtra has drastically changed since the last assembly election in 2019.
