Election Guide
During the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, voters across the country have designated time slots to exercise their voting rights, which differ according to their respective regions. For specific voting hours, individuals are encouraged to consult the Election Commission's official website. The Commission advises voters to find their polling stations using photo voter slips or online tools, aiming to facilitate a seamless voting experience. For further support, citizens can access information on the Commission's website or reach out to local electoral authorities.
What if your name is missing in voters list?
Ensuring voting eligibility is crucial for citizen engagement in governance. This guide simplifies the process, covering voter registration confirmation, enrollment steps, and utilizing technological aids like the 'Voter Helpline' app. Additionally, it outlines the procedure for updating address details on the voter ID card, emphasizing accuracy for seamless participation in the electoral process.
How do I check where to go and vote?
In the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections 2024, finding your nearest polling booth is crucial for exercising your democratic right to vote. Here's how: Visit www.nvsp.in, enter your EPIC number, and locate your booth. Alternatively, dial 1950 for helpline assistance or send an SMS. On voting day, follow the procedural steps outlined for a smooth voting experience. For further guidance, refer to online resources.
How to check your name on the voter list? Download voter slip online?
It is required that your name should appear on the Election Commission's electoral rolls. Once you have found your name on the electoral roll and you also possess an identification document prescribed above by the ECI (the voter ID card or any other acceptable document), you will be allowed to vote.
The ECI introduced a particular symbol for ‘None of the Above’ option to allow the voters to exercise NOTA. This symbol appears in the last panel on all Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs).
All you need to know about Exit polls
Agencies conducting an exit poll follow a range of different procedures or methods. One of the most common methods is sampling. These agencies might opt for random or systematic sampling.
Those citizens who have been declared by the law that they are unstable to vote or barred due to corrupt practices or any illegal act relating to elections are not entitled to be a voter.
The ECI while introducing NOTA indicated that although votes cast as NOTA are counted, they are invalid votes so they will not impact the result of the election process. Therefore, whether NOTA gets more or less votes, it is not taken into account for calculating the total valid votes.
EVM's run on normal battery and they do not require electricity. An EVM can be used to record a maximum of 2,000 votes.
Can I ask for a copy of VVPAT?
The VVPAT machine gives instant feedback to the voter, through a printed slip. Essentially, after a voter presses the button confirming their vote for their chosen candidate or NOTA, the VVPAT machine prints a slip containing the name of the candidate and the corresponding election symbol and automatically drops it in a sealed box.
Details on Gujarat Election
Gujarat Assembly Election 2022: Historic win for BJP, Congress posts worst performanceElections to the 182-member Gujarat Assembly were held in two phases in December 2022. Polling for the first phase in 89 seats was held on December 1 and for the second phase in 93 seats were held on December 5.
Results: Votes were counted on December 8. The Bharatiya Janata Party posted a historic victory, winning 156 of the 182 seats. That's the highest ever margin of victory for any party in Gujarat. The BJP also improved its vote share to 53 per cent from 49 per cent last time.
The Congress finished a distant second, winning 17 seats. In 2017, it won 77. Its vote share also fell from 42 per cent to 27 per cent.
The Aam Aadmi Party, contesting seriously for the first time in the state, won five seats and secured 14 per cent vote share. AAP, which turned the two-party contest in Gujarat into a three-cornered fight, failed to make a splash but performed well enough to become a pan-national party. It also seemed to have cut into Congress votes in a big way in some areas.
BJP's best ever: The BJP not only beat its best showing till date - 127 seats in 2002, but also surpassed the record set by the Congress party in 1985, when it won 149 seats under the leadership of late Madhavsinh Solanki. In winning a seventh term, the BJP also matched the Left Front's feat in West Bengal.
Poll history: The Congress won the first three Assembly elections in 1962, 1967 and 1972. In 1975, an alliance of Congress (0) and Jan Sangh won. The Congress came back to power in 1980 and 1985. In 1990, the Janata Dal and the BJP emerged as dominant forces. The BJP has won every Assembly election from 1995 onwards.
Bhupendra Patel continues as CM: Bhupendra Patel was unanimously elected as the leader of the BJP legislative party. Patel,60, was sworn in as CM for a second straight term.
