Stock market update: Nifty IT index falls 2.45%

NEW DELHI: The Nifty IT index closed on a negative note on Tuesday.

Shares of L&T Technology Services Ltd.(up 1.37 per cent) and Wipro Ltd.(up 0.14 per cent) ended the day as top gainers in the pack.

On the other hand, Persistent Systems Ltd.(down 5.49 per cent), Coforge Ltd.(down 4.05 per cent), HCL Technologies Ltd.(down 3.91 per cent), Infosys Ltd.(down 2.82 per cent) and MphasiS Ltd.(down 2.14 per cent) finished as the top losers of the day.

The Nifty IT index closed 2.45 per cent down at 35980.65.

Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index ended down 353.65 points at 23165.7, while the BSE Sensex stood down 1390.41 points at 76024.51.

Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 15 ended in the green, while 35 closed in the red.

Shares of Vodafone Idea, YES Bank, IDFC First Bank, Zomato and UCO Bank were among the most traded shares on the NSE.

Shares of Gallantt Metal, ITC Hotels, Reliance Naval & Engg, Cura Tech and Hotel Rugby hit their fresh 52-week highs in today's trade, while Punjab Sind Bank, UCO Bank, MITCON Const & Engg.(PP), Gangotri Text and Arshiya hit their fresh 52-week lows.
