NHPC shares rise 2% as board approves Rs 6,300-crore borrowing plan for FY26

NHPC shares rose 2% in early trade to Rs 81.69 on the BSE on Thursday after the company's board approved a borrowing plan to raise up to Rs 6,300 crore in debt for the financial year 2025–26.

According to an exchange filing, the funds will be raised through secured or unsecured corporate bonds—redeemable and non-convertible—in one or more tranches on a private placement basis, along with term loans or external commercial borrowings.

In January, the state-owned company partnered with Andhra Pradesh Power Generation Corp. to form a joint venture for renewable energy projects.

NHPC reported a 47% decline in consolidated net profit, falling to Rs 330.1 crore in the December quarter from Rs 623.3 crore in the same period last year.

NHPC shares target price

As per Trendlyne data, the average target price of the stock is Rs 91, which shows an upside of 13% from the current market prices. The consensus recommendation from 7 analysts for the stock is a 'HOLD'.

Technically, the stock's relative strength index (RSI) is at 59.9. According to Trendlyne, an RSI below 30 is considered oversold, while above 70 indicates overbought conditions. Additionally, the MACD is at 0.0, which is above its center and signal line, this is a bullish indicator.

The stock is trading above its 5-day, 10-day, 20-day, and 30-day, 50-day, and 100-day simple moving averages (SMAs) but remains below its 150-day and 200-day SMAs.

NHPC shares performance

On Wednesday, NHPC shares closed at Rs 80.2, up 1.3% on the BSE, while the benchmark Sensex gained 0.2%. The stock has declined 13% in the past six months but surged 92% over the last two years. The company’s market capitalization stands at Rs 80,551 crore.
